In this presentation, the Cloud Enablement team will share their transformative journey from a focus on platform maintenance to becoming drivers of innovation within Technology Services at the University of Illinois. We will discuss our evolution from managing the university's three cloud platforms (Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, andamazon AWS) to actively collaborating with users and departments to modernize applications and services in the cloud. The presentation will be divided into three parts: 1. Past achievements: We will highlight our transition from a virtual team to a dedicated, full-fledged unit, and the key milestones that laid the foundation for our success in maintaining operational excellence across the cloud platforms. 2. Current initiatives: We will showcase our current projects that demonstrate our shift towards driving innovation. This includes collaborating with various university departments and centers to migrate and build systems in the cloud, working with cloud vendors to explore and develop generative AI tools and resources, managing AWS Legacy Account migrations, implementing Kion for enhanced governance, and ensuring ExpressRoute redundancy for reliable connectivity. 3. Future goals: We will present our vision for the future of cloud computing and AI at the University of Illinois, emphasizing how we plan to empower the university community to innovate and excel. We will discuss our roadmap for implementing cutting-edge solutions like GenAI chatbots and Copilot, and how these tools will revolutionize research, education, and overall user experience. In this workshop, our IT Partners team will walk you through how to deploy a .NET Core custom application to a modern web hosting environment on Linux Azure App Plan platform running Docker Containers. We will discuss how we can architect the Azure environment – including Azure VNET topology which sometimes leverages the Azure ExpressRoute to connect to campus resources – as well as how to utilize Azure AD for authentication to the Azure App Services. Furthermore, we will walk you through the GitHub and Azure integration and development process which uses GitHub Actions CI/CD. Together we will explore and experience these workflows "hands-on" with different Azure Cloud services such as Azure App Plans, Azure Key Vault, Azure AD, Azure Storage, and Azure SQL Server that are all tied into the core Azure Cloud services such as Azure Monitor and Azure Log Analytics.

This presentation provides background and context around Gies College of Business' Data Strategy, Analytics, and Reporting (DSAR) unit, and describes its model for centralizing data, working with clients, and building analytics products that serve the strategic and operational needs of the College. Using a real example from our own work at DSAR, we will: - Explain our consulting approach with clients, where our Data Analysts work directly with unit leadership to understand data needs, data sources, and to build products that directly address priorities and goals; - Dive into our approach to data structure, where we transform raw data sources into usable data tables that are centralized and accessible to multiple platforms, including Power BI; - Describe our development process with Power BI, where we access automated data, sources and create standard visualization dashboards and apps, as well as document our tools for future expansion; - Discuss the importance of automation throughout the entire process, from automated data flow, to utilizing Python to process elements, to using stored procedures for Power BI to access updated data in Azure SQL on a daily basis; and - Explain how the unit's organization as a part of the Gies IT department creates unique access to technical support, project management, and client reporting tools, such as Asana, to keep track of tasks and keep clients apprised of project progress.

Library systems, repositories, and databases increasingly depend on cloud storage and web application access. This move brings more attention to the structures for provisioning access and privileges. Through interviews with the Service Managers, Developers, and Administrators, I examined the process used to manage identities in their repositories. What I found was that managing identities was not the priority during the process of creating the repositories. The library's many repositories do not have a centralized, hierarchical system; each repository is siloed into its own defined area. The best suggestion for an organization of any size is to use a combination of RBAC and ABAC solutions with defined roles and attributes that can be customized for the different user bases represented. If the Service Managers, Developers, and Identity Professionals can meet and define a set of roles for the RBAC Solution and a set of responsibilities for the ABAC Attributes, then through a combination of the RBAC and ABAC, each user will have customized provisioning and access. A middleware product such as Grouper can manage these roles and attributes by creating and maintaining reference and policy groups. These policy groups could then be synced to the AD Groups on the OU to provide the needed LDAP records for the Shibboleth SSO login.

Human Centered Design focuses on empathy and iteration to make user needs and goals understood, visible, and the driving force behind design and implementation. A Human Centered Design approach can be used across all divisions and levels of IT to describe what we do and how it brings value. This presentation will give an overview of HCD concepts, supply frameworks to apply HCD concepts geared towards IT activities, and give pointers to additional resources, training, and workshops.

This workshop will be a half-and-half presentation/workshop. We intend to introduce users to Microsoft Power Automate first with a brief PowerPoint presentation, and then have them create their own Power Automate flow by following along with one of our presenters. The PowerPoint presentation will not require audience interaction outside of questions, but users will get the most out of the second half of the workshop if they bring a laptop to follow along on their own.
